Helmut Newton's SUMO
Helmut Newton himself once said that "Those who write about photography write only for those who write about photography" and while Richmond Review staffers aren't about to let that stop them, on this occasion the sheer vastness of the project has smacked our gobs. SUMO is huge: 30kg and 480 hand-bound pages of Newton at his glorious best, and a snip at only £1000 to you, guv. For that you also get the specially designed and built Philippe Starck table pictured here, and each book is numbered and signed by the artist. Glorious.
Understandably enough, Newton's publishers Taschen weren't too keen on providing us with an actual review copy of SUMO, but they did kindly give us a CD with a couple of dozen hi-res scans of some choice examples of Newton's work - and permission to reproduce a few of them in low-res here. Enjoy. And if you have a grand to spare we've arranged for Taschen to provide free shipping in the UK if you buy from our on-line bookstore - follow this link. (If you have two grand spare, please buy us a copy while you're at it.)
